Kakegawa WeavingDyed fabrics
Kakegawa, typically used for floor mats, has long been produced throughout Chikugo, a well-known rush production region. These elegant floor mats are noted for their distinctive grassy smell and vivid colors, and are popular for their unique texture resulting from the tight knit technique used to produce them. Until approximately 40 years ago, when there were still many rush-producing farmers in this area, Kakegawa floor mats were woven in large numbers by women living in Oki Town as a side job. Today, they continue to occupy a special place in households as quintessential Chikugo summer accessories.
