Yame Handmade Washi PaperHandmade Japanese paper
Yame has the oldest history of producing handmade washi paper in Kyushu. History suggests that paper production began here more than 400 years ago because the Yabe River's topography and the purity of its water made it particularly suitable for producing paper. This type of Japanese washi paper is tougher than the kinds found in other production areas as it is made with locally harvested paper mulberry with distinctively long fibers. These fibers are thick and firm, making the paper highly durable. It is highly acclaimed as a paper for use in mounting, including for hanging scrolls and sliding screen door paper.
